It's challenging to confess sexual sin--and as parents, it's challenging to step up and admit when our children sin sexually. In a recent news report, one mom, whose daughter's semi-nude photo was texted via a cellphone to classmates, said her daughter didn't do anything wrong! Then, the mom said she wouldn't want a child pornographer to see the photo of her daughter. If there was anyone she didn't want to see that photo--then there was something wrong with the photo. As parents, we need to step up to the plate and teach our children right from wrong--and help them admit when they make a wrong choice. Only then can they find forgiveness and healing.

It is so true, that behavior is an outflow of the heart and since the heart of man is sinful by nature, it must die to self, and live to Christ. That only comes from renewing your mind on the Word of God. After experiencing the grace of God, we must also continue to grow in God. The list of books that Doc has suggested has been most helpful. My wife and I continue to grow closer together, and are continuing to move to the marriage that glorifies God.

My dear brothers in Christ who battle with sexual sin, and to Andreas in Germany, Greetings in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord ! The Stonegate experience was Life Changing for my wife and I as well as the other couples in the group. Without programs like this and teachers like Harry, we would lean on our own understanding of the word and thus pridefully think we could survive and get out of our sin under our power and understanding. Jesus was called teacher many times, Paul was an Apostle, the holy spirit is our counselor Jn 15-16.

We need other Christians in our lives; Pastors teachers to support, encourage, and teach us. Without admitting we are powerless we fall prey to pride.

GOD Bless you Harry, Rosemary, Guy and GiGi. We LOVE you all and thank you !

Sir,

While I would, in no respect, argue my own life or conduct to be perfect, I might make a few comments;

(i) in regards to the 'fruitful' designs of sex; theoretically, yes, upon this premise the act of masturbation would be wrong. But so would a couple who choose to use contraception. So would, potentially, a wet dream. The absurdity here is self evident

(ii) Second, it is more likely that the root cause of its classifcation as a sin may be due to the concept of 'Onanism,' where the early church considered Onan to be guilty of sin because he 'spilt' his seed; rather, the cause of God's anger was instead his failure to impregnate his decased brother's wife and s fulfil his duty etc. In this regard, there has been much confusion (James Dobson has commented similarly)

The article's thesis is quite right; there is no 'intimacy' to be gained from the act of masturbation. However, if the act is separate from lustful thoughts, etc and designed to merely act as a release, then it is not necessarily anymore prima facie wrong than a wet dream.

I would, personally, be loathe to classify it as an act wrong in itself; otherwise, I fear it may become a source of shame and hypocrisy. Instead, this is an issue that I would simply ask to be relegated to the realm of individual conscience.

Kind Regards,
Harold

Comment on Are We Powerless Over Sexual Sin? by J.M.

First of all, thank you for taking the time to write this article. That it changed my life? Well' no but it gave me something diffrent to think about. "Could it be that the part which drives me to fall into sin be the same thing that God himself is using to somehow draw me near to him? That is a statement that has come by my mind but not one that I have allowed myself to pay attention to. How can God use sin to draw me near to him. Well my friend I believe you are on to something whith that statement.

Just a little about myself
I was born in a Christian home that saw its end with in the late years of the eighties. My parents divorced and as consecuense of that and my father not being near all the time. A man took advantage of me. How he did it is irrelevent but lets just say that the incident marked my life in a manner that was not noticeable to me. Ever since that time I found myself always the victim of some maggazine being passed arround or a tv commercial arrousing me to masturbate. Masturbation has been something that has in horrible ways wanted to destroy my life. Before marrying my wife in 2004 I fell in a sexual sin that somehow was covered by a male friend wanting to help me out with the sexual tension I was getting by kissing my girlfriend who is now my wife. Lets just say that I found myself in a situation where I almost lost the woman I knew would be my wife. She felt cheated on and ugly and well just those words should somehow explain the terrible situation. No married I still live with this issue. I believe that I opened the door to it again by masturbating when my wife was upset with me or had somekind of vaginal desease. I just finished filling my eyes with more pictures but it all started Sunday morning here on this same computer. I found my self in You Tube despretly looking for some woman that would incite me. My friend' all my life I have struggled with this but you say that I cannot controll it and that I need to use the power of the ressurection? That sounds pretty and all but I have gone to God in prayer but the pictures I have seen in the past still litter this mind. I tell myself I have the mind of Christ but at the trying moment I end up in the same situation. Write me back please I will eagerly wait for your response. Also I am a minister in a worship team or group and the Lord uses me mightely for his Glory but sometimes this problem makes me feel worthless to God. Even though he still speaks words of reconciliation and advice against this my problem. I dont see my self as a pervert but there is a terrible sexual hunger that is fed by visions of pictures I have seen. Well I will stop writing now
Be blessed and once more thank you for taking the time to write the article.
Sincerely J.M.

P.S
My wife doesent know
this. If she finds out
it will probably mean a
very horrible time for me
and possible the loss of
my marriage.

i have read the comments and i certainly agree with the theoretical foundations that it is sinful. However am just wondering what single people are supposed to do with their sex drive. it really is furstrating when all that sexual tension is built up in ur body and cant be released. i am a woman and it gets really hard esp during ovulation. in my case masturbation has prevented fornication. However going by the accompanying guilt, i know it is sinful. i just wonder what am i supposed to do with the sexual desires in the meantime, as i do not want to fall into sin. i have tried offering them up to God, but the drive is too high. i have tried to ascertain the cause of this....i have come to the realisation that a need for companionship and i guess a feeling of justification drive me to this. am like God will understand coz he is the one who is given me the drive and yet he isnt providing me with a spouse to meet this need. After all, i am holier than thou coz there are single people out there who resort to casual sex to let steam off. i am better coz i use it as a last resort. Right? Wrong! i realise how wrong i have been! the sexual drive is part of nature's course and is healthy. what is unhealthy is yielding to temptation. i read somewhere in Titus that God is not the one who tempts us as he does not deceive. He knows we are human and its really wrong to think that he would put us thru such trying moments...HE LOVES US! He is not some harsh examiner providing challenging tasks and ready to punish us if we fail! Nevertheless he lets us get tempted BUT only for what we can handle. Therefore the fact that am still single despite my seemingly high sexual drive, means God believes that i can remain pure. That is why he has called us and says that we shall place our burdens on him and he shall give us rest. am really trying to place this burden on him....as his grace is sufficient for me. and i do believe he shall give me perserverance until i am married. i believe that in his mercy he shall keep me free from this sin and that he shall provide reprieve for me soon by providing the spouse who shall meet my sexual needs. to all the single people in this dilemma i know its hard and i keep falling however i find this useful.....every time u get horny esp as a gal, offer up that cross to God and ask him to use it for his purposes. Personally i pray for a happy marriage and a sexually fulfilling one every time i get tempted. i also pray for sanctity of my body parts that they may be used for God's righteousness...and that my body may be pleasing to the husband. i guess just like Christ's cross was used for the slvation of mankind, so can this furstration be used for a greater and a glorifying good.
